The EO Dashboard has multiple global maps for air quality and greenhouse gases in GeoTIFF file format. Your challenge is to create a spatial analysis and time series plotting tool for EO Dashboard air quality and greenhouse gas GeoTIFF datasets.

Summary

This data visualization project shows the Air Quality Index (AQI) for some locations in NCR, Region 3, Region 4A, Region 4B and Region 12 from open dataset of Environmental Management Bureau (EMB) Official Social Media Sites. This project aims to depict the AQI trend for some locations in a very understandable manner. This also tries to visualize the effect of recent issues/conditions (e.g. Covid 19) of my country to air quality.

How I Addressed This Challenge

As a developing country, one of the untapped resources is data transformation due to several reasons. One of those is the ability to maximize the available digital technology especially in data visualization tools in analyzing internal data.

Data is indeed the new soil. Data when consolidated and analyzed will always give us remarkable insights which can be a tool for interpreting and understanding the underlying principles of some environmental issues. Through data democratization, the developer of Project Simoy aims to bridge data visualization and other relevant technology in utilizing these untapped open-source resources from environment specially climate change and resiliency datasets which can potentially unravel localized climate trends and insights to researchers, policy makers and regulators whose main aim is to combat the suppressing effects of climate change.

How I Developed This Project

From the social media posting of Environmental Management Bureau (PH), the developer is inspired to localize the EARTH OBSERVING DASHBOARD into PH Air Quality Index scenario.

AQI Daily Infographics - When the Taal Volcano erupted last January 2020, EMB continuously releasing daily AQI infographics in order to show the quality of air especially to those affected locations. They releasing two (2) infographics per day, Morning and Afternoon. Up to this day, they have been releasing these cool infographics in their official social media accounts and website.

These AQI Daily Infographics are being reprocessed and stored in to excel sheet and then visualize further using MS Power Bi.

How I Used Space Agency Data in This Project

We studied how NASA is presenting their data and localize it into PH Air Quality Index scenario. In such a way, we are developing an additional datasets from my country by which can be used by NASA as reference or additional to their massive datasets.
