This site has a collection of datasets from credible international organizations like UNESCO, World Bank etc and have datasets related to various fields like public health, mobility etc. in the COVID-19 period,it might be helpful in data search. It has datasets which are focused worldwide as well as on some specific regions

Yo yo yo!

Just feeling jazzed up about the economic data I've been finding. There are so many good resources out there!!!

I thought we might look at the following indicators:

  • Stock prices (Apple, Microsoft, and other major companies)
  • Credit variability
  • Unemployment rate
  • Household spending

These are auxiliary (not available in the EO Dashboard), but if the ANOVA finds them to be significant for contamination/pollution/NO2, then our solution might suggest such variables belong on the list

Lots of this data I have uploaded to our shared drive and will continue to clean them, two observations:

  1. CSV files are indeed quite common, I have found them everywhere
  2. Sometimes I get metadata in PDF formats too (metadata describes what is in each data set: variable names, etc)

In other news... we have a Google Chatroom. Hopefully there is an invitation in your email to partake in the chat. This will be a great resource for us to talk, talk, talk. Maybe a little easier than good ole Rocket Chat...

Daniela set up a Google Meet for our next time, here are the details:

Hey everyone,

I hope y'all are doing great in these times.

I am catching up with all of the content and I must say you guys really know your stuff. I can't wait to meet you all so we can get to know one another and find the best distribution of tasks in order to give out the best value. By the way, are meeting in 15 ? or 1 hr and 15 ?

Hello team, I am very exited to meet you all in a few today.

First thing first! We need to use a few tools such as Sentinel-1, ALOS-2 imagery, or Open street map to categorize and create a representative sample of these areas for the study regions. I have listed the key proxies that we need to analyze listed below:

1-    City’s air quality

2-    Mobility/ transportation, parking lots

3-    social economic system NA

4-    public health

5-    commercial retail

6-    economic demand

7-    production

8-    absence of an agricultural labor workforce

9-    affected agricultural production.

We can use NASA, ESA, and Jaxa datasets to cross analyze

Hi all,

Alex I think I get this right. We are meeting today the 24that 1400 (GMT-5) which is 2PM EST. Correct?

Whaddup Team-Tech 1,

Throwing up the next meet-up info here:

If we’ve got an email address for ya, then also check for this info there (courtesy of Daniela - thanks for organizing)

For my part, I’ve got my eyes on populating an ANOVA stats model with as much spatial data as I can find. Starting with urban areas: Mumbai & Los Angeles & Rome & Mexico City

Other questions I’ve been dreaming about:

  • What is the form we are aiming for? Are we adding functionality to the EO Dashboard? Are we adding data layer(s) to the EO Dashboard?
  • Which Areas of Interest (AOIs) will be best to answer the “Comparative Analysis” challenge?
  • How can we divide up the work and make best use of everyone’s valuable time and skills?

Thanks and you ROCK!!! 🤘🏻🤘🏿🤘🏽🤘🏼🤘🏾👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽

Sooooo...

Daniela and I are meeting on Google chat

It is a very effective method because we can share our screens and talk too

There is a lag (retraso), but it is not bad between our countries (U.S. and Mexico)

The meeting lasted ~50 minutes

In summary we talked about:

  • How we are learning to write some code in Jupyter notebooks (accessing data sets the Euro Data Cube: https://eurodatacube.com/documentation/calculating-ndvi)
  • Which of the data sources required an account and password for access (Euro Data Cube, Planet.com, European Environment Agency CLC+ suite of products, Open Street Map)
  • Some limitations of the data sources, for example, the Earth Observation Dashboard is pretty limited in which regions actually have data are out there
  • Reviewed the basics of ANOVA: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Analysis_of_variance
  • Emphasized the data assumption of normality (in other words, we assume/suppose all of our data will be normally distributed)
  • Took a look at some example maps showing a lake decreasing in size due to global warming
  • Noticed this array of six maps of the lake decreasing in size will probably be an effective way to report our solution
  • Reviewed some graphs and charts relating to clean water (agua dulce) use in the United States and internationally
  • Noticed India as a country was extracting a lot of groundwater, hypothesized this is because they have a huge population and not many clean water sources above ground
  • Alex explained his goal of creating a diverse team so that the project would be the best possible, benefiting from diverse point of views

Both of us feel comfortable looking at GRAPHS, DIAGRAMS, and CHARTS so feel free to share data in these formats

The meeting was conducted in Spanish, we feel English will be a good language to work in (with plenty of help/translation/interpretation available so we can understand everyone)

We will meet again in Google chat at 1400 (GMT -5) on 24-June-2021, until then...

Alex will try to sign up more teammates and get e-mail addresses of existing teammates too

Daniela will make a draft diagram suggesting some of the variables we can look at and connections we can explore

Embrace the brainstorming phase/abrazar el fase de la lluvia de ideas

We are gonna do AMAZING WORK, I am psyched

Much love,

Alex (he/him/his)

Great,

I have been watching it too. I am wrapping up a stats course and every is due tonight. I will share my part on the guidelines.

Alex’s summary of the challenge video:

So… I tend to get off track quite easily so I re-watched the challenge video and put together notes and key terms in order to stay on track :)

ESA presenter = Patrick Griffiths (PhD)

JXA presenter = Kei Shiomi

Both Patrick and Kei had some common insights, but there were key differences in how they suggested going forward

  • ”Proxies” looking for one, two or three
  • We can integrate proxies into a SINGLE INDICATOR
  • Economic impact: retail & production, air quality/pollution (composite w/ economic), public health
  • Characterize LEVELS and CHANGES…

  • Must apply across all three regions: North America, Europe, and Asia
  • Show spatial AND temporal variation of proxies
  • Strategic sets i.e. Areas of Interest (AOIs) to focus analysis
  • How did Covid-19 impact the socio-economic system?????
  • How so chosen indicators predict economic impact????

SPECIFIC EXAMPLE MENTIONED BY PATRICK AND KEI:

  1. Synthetic Aperature Radar (SAR) - back scatter signals from parking lots
  2. Starting point = Overpass (?) a web interface, Open Street Map API (Jupyter notebooks somewhere)
  3. Variations in artificial illumination -> decrease/increase in anthropogenic activity
  4. NO2 concentrations -> fume activity changing in closure and slowdown
  5. Fifty (50) largest healthcare or retail sites
  6. Any additional data sources to validate proxies: mobility/statistics

So far it seems to be just Angie and I holding it down, but we are on the hunt for AWESOME TEAM MEMBERS who share the values of WELL-BEING ON THE PLANET…
