Agricultural Impacts of COVID-19

Remotely sensed data can provide information about conditions on the ground that may affect food supply chains and food security during pandemics. Your challenge is to demonstrate the agricultural socio-economic impacts from COVID-19.

Farmers Friendly Portable Soil Testing Device

Summary

Agriculture is the largest economic sector in Bangladesh, contributing 19.6 percent to the national GDP and providing employment for 63 percent of the population. The growth, quality, and amount of crops and other agricultural products mostly dependent on the soil condition and other related parameters. Our main focus is to reduce soil testing time and we make a system for rural area farmers and agriculture experts where both are on one platform. Farmers can get any type of support using this platform.

How I Addressed This Challenge

The growth, quality, and amount of crops and other agricultural products mostly dependent on the soil condition and other related parameters. Most of the farmers are live in rural areas. In this modern world, many technologies come in Agriculture sector but lack of technology, communication, and proper training rural farmers don’t get that benefit. For this reason, they follow the traditional way of farming. That’s why they don’t earn enough money, they don’t know how can take care of field soil so that they lose their productivity because good soil is the main part of Agriculture. So, we make a smart portable soil testing device for farmers. Using this device farmers can test their soil, and get results on time within a few seconds. Our artificial intelligence-based mobile application gives a suggestion on what types of plants he can grow his field and how he improves his field soil.

Our main focus is to reduce soil testing time and we make a system for rural area farmers and agriculture experts where both are on one platform. Farmers can get any type of support using this platform. This project has been done for finding the most useful features of soil like measuring the pH level soil NPK level and testing the moisture of soil instantly, which usually reported after a long-time traditional process of analysis. An artificial intelligence-based mobile application incorporated in the smart device, which helps the farmer to plant crops based on the testing parameters - pH level soil NPK level, and moisture displayed on the screen of the devices. After inputting the data in the mobile application it suggests to the farmers- which types of crops they can plant in this field, it can also suggest to the farmers how much fertilizer they should give their field. Farmers and local agriculture officers are registered on our platform. Using our platform farmers can communicate with their local government agriculture officer also Government officers can monitor their areas registered farmer's field status on this platform.

How I Developed This Project

When we develop this smart soil testing device we do research about our farmers. This research's main key finding was farmer’s education farmer’s location and farmers' income. Where we see our most of the farmers are living in rural areas and they do not have sufficient access to technology, equipment, training, and financing to manage the agriculture sector. Also, they are not so much educated. So we decide to make a user-friendly portable device and mobile application in the Bangla language. So farmers can easily Carrey our device because it’s a mobile size device. This device has 3 sensors which are measure soil 3 important parameters are soil pH level soil NPK level and the soil moisture level instantly, which usually reported after a long-time traditional process of analysis. After testing the soil, the device sends the soil data in our mobile application through Bluetooth technology. Our artificial intelligence-based mobile application analysis the data, it suggests to the farmers- which types of crops they can plant in this field, it can also suggest to the farmers how much fertilizer they should give their field. Farmers and local agriculture officers are registered on our platform. Using our platform farmers can communicate with their local government agriculture officer also Government officers can monitor their area's registered farmer's field status on this platform.

Earth Observing Dashboard Integration

Our team tries to do something for farmers. so we hope this type of technology can helps farmers to increase their productivity. This competition will help us to disseminate our technology to others.
