Agricultural Impacts of COVID-19

Remotely sensed data can provide information about conditions on the ground that may affect food supply chains and food security during pandemics. Your challenge is to demonstrate the agricultural socio-economic impacts from COVID-19.

GREEN IT

Summary

Agriculture is the source of our life. We believe that using technology can solve any major problem. So, We decided to think outside the box. As 17-year-old teenagers. We thought of using EO dashboard data from ESA, JAXA and NASA in an artistic way that would benefit scientists, specialists and also people of our age. We set an incentive to read to the end. We made a magazine that includes data and pictures that show many details about the world and some Arab countries in the period of the COVID-19 epidemic in terms of economy, agriculture and sociability and demonstrates solutions to the severe challenges, which faced the world in the COVID-19 epidemic.

How I Addressed This Challenge

The initial version of Green it magazine, Our team used some of the modest self-learned skills in designing to add a touch of creativity to a magazine with different Extensions that we believe is going to be eye-pleasing and make a better experience for the judges.

We think the magazine may be important because of the information it contains about the period of the epidemic, which was not easy at all. We look forward to working on more copies that include more information for all the people of the world to read.

The goal we want to achieve from the project and from life in general, is for science to be an interesting thing for the Arabs and people of the entire world. So, we used an entertaining method to solve the challenge and also it will give most people some very important knowledge.

How I Developed This Project

As a team comprising two members who live in the town, going to the same school, we started looking around us. We live in a small agricultural town in East Egypt called Minya El Qamh, which is run by farmers. As a result, we knew their problems, and We took a deeper look, especially during the quarantine period after hours of searching and collecting data about the challenges we found that agriculture impact in the COVID-19 era will be the best choice for us.

After choosing this challenge. That was our time to work. First, we started to understand the dashboard which was a complex goal in the first two days, but after watching videos from the EO hackathon on YouTube we could use and collect data from the dashboard effectively. After we understood everything around resources, dashboard, and the challenge, we started looking for an idea that can solve the challenge, and also be creative. So, we used Art. We decided to build a prototype magazine to present the data and solutions with a nice user interface. We used Adobe Photoshop to edit the slides and Adobe Illustrator to draw some shapes to put the information inside them.

The most serious problem we faced is building a better experience for the reader by putting flipbook effect to make the magazine more realistic and enjoyable, so we used a website called "flip it" to make this effect and that was a great idea, so we designed one magazine in two different ways, first one is an ordinary PDF file with high-resolution images, and the magazine with flipbook effects.

How I Used Space Agency Data in This Project

We used the earth observation dashboard as a principal reference for data. Furthermore, we chased the chance and used many articles from ESA, JAXA, and NASA.which were extremely useful. So we analyzed and simplified the data as information to put as text in the magazine. And we transferred the photos, graphs, and maps into visual photos to be easier for readers to understand the content. And We have used satellite images from the Sentinel 2 L1C satellite to know specific and detailed locations and we couldn't make or observe anything without the access which was given to us by JAXA.

Earth Observing Dashboard Integration

After reviewing Dashboard Technical Background and Integration Guide, we can say the solution could be integrated into the Earth Observing Dashboard because we used a new and effective to apply the EO dashboard complex data into simpler information that can be read by anyone even if he has no experience about the agriculture impact in COVID-19.
