Agricultural Impacts of COVID-19

Remotely sensed data can provide information about conditions on the ground that may affect food supply chains and food security during pandemics. Your challenge is to demonstrate the agricultural socio-economic impacts from COVID-19.

Soild Problems.

Summary

This project tries to use the data from the satellites ALOS-2 PALSAR-2, ALOS-2 ScanSAR and Sentinel-1 to help farmers to do their farming. With this application, farmers will be able to see the data from before, during and after the covid with the data they will be able to speculate and acquire a better analysis of the field for better and fruit crops. Also obtain images of your own field to be able to make a photographic analysis of the area in conjunction with the data obtained.

How I Addressed This Challenge

Our project addresses this challenge in an integrated way, this because its function is to provide a type of information to a specific sector, in this case and as we are developing it in the field of agriculture, our main purpose was to help to farmers; Our app will allow the farmer to get information from his field in an intelligent and fast way to be able to generate greater benefits from the use of the land.

This project would allow him to generate a great performance of the land, achieving a higher production, better harvest times; These points are of great importance in the future either due to the increase in poverty and poor nutrition due to overpopulation.

This application works using the data provided by satellites or the farmer may also be allowed to install a device (these devices will give information such as temperature, humidity, etc; remotely) which will dictate more precise information to the app, allowing a greater increase in benefits in regard to field care.

This app hopes to solve the problems of the future as regards the field, and also avoid the problems that abrupt climate changes can cause in the field.

How I Developed This Project

We developed this project due to the importance of agriculture in our country; For this reason, we focus it mainly to improve the work of the farmer and the performance of the land, this project was developed using the android studio software and the information from the agency satellites (JAXA ALOS-2 | PALSAR 2,Sentinel 1). It was difficult to synchronize the data with the application, but once we were able to overcome that setback, we were able to develop an application that could help millions of farmers in the future to improve their management of the field with respect to climate changes and humidity.

As for hardware, we created a demo with Arduino of a base which is installed on the ground and allows the rapid detection of low humidity or temperatures which do not match the type of plantation, the data is sent to the app and it informs you to the farmer immediately.

How I Used Space Agency Data in This Project

The use of the data by NASA was key to the development of the app, this due to the fact that data that is difficult to obtain is provided, either the satellite images or the data attached to them. There were also data such as the level of production in the field, which helped us to have more precise parameters on the percentages in respect of yields.

The most used data for the project:

Activity indicator

Change of productive area

Harvesting evolution over time

Plantation activity

Growing conditions around the world

Accumulated harvested area

Earth Observing Dashboard Integration

Our work can be included in the Panel within "Agriculture", within it would be our application where if one goes to the area of the agricultural land and presses it, they will be able to see, apart from a satellite image of the land and more images through weather. All the data and parameters provided by the satellites, which were obtained from this land to improve its performance for future harvests.
