Agricultural Impacts of COVID-19

Remotely sensed data can provide information about conditions on the ground that may affect food supply chains and food security during pandemics. Your challenge is to demonstrate the agricultural socio-economic impacts from COVID-19.

COVID-19 and agriculture .

Summary

The COVID-19 pandemic led to climate change, which led to the inability to grow some food grains in some areas, and rice was one of the grains that were affected by the climate, so we try to find some solutions for rice to avoid famine

How I Addressed This Challenge

This challenge talks about the impact of COVID-19 on agriculture, and we decided to make a website that talks about the problems caused by Corona and its damage to some agricultural crops and caused some crops not to be planted in some areas due to climate change, which will lead to famines and a deterioration in the global economy. We made a website in which we present the problem and try to find some solutions to it. That is why we thought of genetically modifying some grains to suit the climate, or planting them in a greenhouse with an appropriate climate, or using nuclear energy to improve the balance of soil and plants, dealing with pests and food safety, and we hope after all that we will solve Famine threatens the lives of millions of people

How I Developed This Project

We chose this challenge that talks about food because food is the thing that made a primitive man live in a cave that builds ancient civilizations, and because it is a source of life

We started thinking about solving the problem of starvation facing the world due to lack of food, and we found that there are some crops that were generally affected by climate change, so we thought how to modify the climate to grow these crops, so we found the idea of greenhouse and it has already been applied for decades, or genetically modifying crops to suit the climate

And we faced many difficulties, such as: The search for a team really clarifies the search for problems and the presentation of their solutions and the completion of this challenge in less than four days only, despite the concerns of other daily life, and we have accomplished a lot in this small period, we have faced difficulties in programming and uploading the site On the server, we used wix.com and also tried not to despair and prevent any conflict with all those pressures that we were facing

How I Used Space Agency Data in This Project

We have benefited from the resources that you have provided, as they have guided us in understanding what we should investigate, in addition to some information from satellite images and articles that were present.

Earth Observing Dashboard Integration

we have known that

1-Rice farmers in Nigeria were also battling the negative effects of climate change such as lack of rainfall

from this website https://www.esa.int/Applications/Observing_the_Earth/Copernicus/Sentinel-5P

2-One of the best ways that can be used to increase production is the use of climate-smart farming techniques, the most important of which are:

Land and water management is the technique of land and water management, as land management is the management of the use and development of land resources in both urban and rural environments, and these resources are used in organic agriculture, reforestation of forests, water resources management and eco-tourism projects, and it is also one of the best techniques that preserve soil and its resources, through The method of sequestering carbon in the soil and also restoring peatlands, which are characterized by their ability to retain a large amount of water, making them wet for a longer period than other types of soil

at this point we used that website http://www.fao.org/climate-smart-agriculture/knowledge/practices/ar/
