The COVID-19 pandemic offered an unprecedented opportunity to look at changes in the Earth system in response to reduced human activity. Your challenge is to develop tools to better understand changes in the interconnected Earth system as seen through the EO Dashboard.
During COVID researchers could see the change in water quality and for this, we create HINAMI a webpage that is designed to inform any viewer of the water quality issues in Tokyo, Japan. On the webpage, you can find there will be pages in the upper left corner for information about Tokyo, Data like Maps, Water Quality Comparison, the Glossary and the 3D modeled device Kairi, And on the homepage, there are recommendations for helping the water qualities, information about the Chl-a and more.
Our project have the function of provide information about the changes in the water quality in the Tokyo, in the Device Kiari page you can find a device that their function is measuring water quality effectively. Our webpage it serves as a reliable source for researchers interested in this particular topic. Our main objetive is raise awareness among the research population, so that they can understand the importance of water care.
After viewing and reading through all the challenges we were given, we chose "Looking at the big picture" because as previous information stated that due to COVID there has been a decrease in water pollution as well as a decrease in shipments. That really got us thinking about many ways the water all around the world must have been affected, it was really intriguing to think through the process of how water quality is studied.
Mainly we used the JAXA space agency because our project region focused on Tokyo Japan. We used the data of the charts to compare as well as do research to understand the challenge better to come up with a solution. The maps were used as well for research and it had a great influence to be able to use live data that is updated weekly on our webpage.
The webpage we created can be integrated into the Earth Observing Dashabord by being the website for the "Looking at the big picture" challenge, as it states what the problem is with the water quality and chlorophyll with a 3D device Kairi that is a tool to detect the water quality and the source of the change in water quality.
We used JAXA's data the most in our project, which influenced how we formatted accordingly to the charts and maps with information that explained the process of the water quality. Another source we used for research is CNN for the information on the specific region we chose, about COVID impact.
