Storytelling in the COVID-19 Era

The longer human activities are changed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the more visible, wider, and longer lasting the scope of environmental impacts may be. Your challenge is to tell a visual story about the impacts of the pandemic using Earth observation data and other complementary information.

THE TALE OF THE MOST DEADLY VIRUS IN THE HISTORY OF MANKIND, COVID-19

Summary

In this project we have carefully observed and analyzed the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on a local, regional and global level. Our team has used the data available from the EARTH OBSERVATION DASHBOARD, resources available in the event, and some external sources like articles and publications on certain websites to interpret the impacts of the coronavirus. Since it is a storytelling challenge, we had a little brainstorming session in which all the members presented our ideas on 'how will we start and move on with the challenge.' We have, based on the data, interpreted each situation and presented an explanation in a simple and an understandable manner.

How I Addressed This Challenge

The objective of this challenge is to communicate the environmental impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic in a simple method. Our project addresses the challenge by the interpretation and explanation of each environmental impact based upon the data collected from the EARTH OBSERVATION DASHBOARD and other external sources.

How I Developed This Project

The main reason behind our team taking up this challenge is we are not bound a limit of fulfilling certain criteria but we have the opportunity to "think out of the box" and exploit our imagination to form the best possible solution.

To come up with the solution, that is , to communicate the environmental impacts we used the data and resources available on the EARTH OBSERVATION DASHBOARD and some of the external sources.

Since it is a storytelling challenge, we used nothing other than the available resources, external resources and our imagination.

Coming up with ideas is not an easy task, so we had to spend a lot of time thinking. Also, retrieving information from the sources and processing it is a hectic job. Honestly, that took up most of the time. Nevertheless, we were able to complete the challenge.

How I Used Space Agency Data in This Project

Our team has planned to work on the indicators which are provided in the EARTH OBSERVATION DASHBOARD(which is relevant to our work). We have studied and interpreted the data that each indicator provides us along with the information given. We have also used some external sources(websites) to collect data relevant to the topic. We have divided the work among all of us so that each person has equal amount of research and information collection tasks. Based on each indicator, we have the estimated the environmental impacts due to the current pandemic. After collecting data and estimating the impacts, we have integrated our work and produced the final solution.

Earth Observing Dashboard Integration

Since we are attempting a storytelling challenge, we have not created an application to be integrated into the EARTH OBSERVATION DASHBOARD, our challenge was to interpret the environmental impacts due to ongoing coronavirus and we have performed that task diligently.
