The longer human activities are changed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the more visible, wider, and longer lasting the scope of environmental impacts may be. Your challenge is to tell a visual story about the impacts of the pandemic using Earth observation data and other complementary information.

Summary

COVID-19 virus has changed the whole world. Many people got affected and many have lost the dear ones. Moreover, economic growth has slowed down considerably worldwide and it has also impacted the life of a common man. So we have decided to develop an application that narrates COVID-19 in a creative manner. Our app narrates and compares the data of pre and post covid on factors like Air Quality, Temperature, Wind pattern, rainfall pattern,etc with animations. It also covers the vaccination data. The purpose of developing the application is to offer data to the public and create awareness about COVID-19 and its impacts.Our web application is user friendly and has the link to vaccine sites.

How I Addressed This Challenge

Our proposed work is a web-based mobile application with interactive animation, a dataset of Earth observation parameters, and covid vaccination data with a chatbot present in it for user guidance. The main motive behind the idea is to make people understand that "every coin has two sides. Although the coronavirus was a deadly virus and caused lethal destruction, it contributed to some healthy changes as well. So, our mobile application creates awareness to the people about the same by providing a comparison post and pre covid changes of Earth observation parameters. It also creates awareness about the importance of vaccination to the people. We collected data from the EO dashboard as well as from the NASA website to create the real-time database of our application. Pollution is one of the major parameters that has been reduced in this pandemic due to the least use of polluting agents like vehicles, industries, etc. It has been a major reason for the reduction in ozone depletion, giving way for the ailing Mother Earth to heal. So, by introducing this application, we tend to create consciousness among the people to practice sustainable development. The ultimate desire of the idea is to generate an eco-friendly mindset amongst the people.

How I Developed This Project

Covid-19 is a fatal disease that affected the whole world. We as the youngsters always wanted to contribute our knowledge and skill towards the beneficiary of society. This pandemic made us realize the pain of losing our loved ones. After seeing people's pain and suffering, we decided to take a problem statement associated with the COVID-19 crisis. The total number of covid-19 cases all over the world is 18.1 crore, and deaths due to covid-19 are 39.3 lakhs. This is not just numbers but the lives of people. So, we developed a web-based mobile application that is not only socio-economically feasible but also environment friendly. We focused to make the reach to all the age groups of people. Hence, we use interactive animations which were designed with the help of the Blender tool and Animaker website for animations. We were able to gather data from the EO dashboard and the NASA website for data related to Earth observation parameters. Data of vaccination count was generated from the MyGov website. The web application was developed using HTML. To define the functionalities of the website, we used the JAVA script. The application was developed using CSS. These are the coding languages used in our proposed work. To write the program codes Brackets software was used. Since we can interrupt our proposed idea as an advanced version of weather reporting application too. It is important to update the database on daily basis. So, the problem we faced in this project is implemented our prototype with a real-time database. But we were able to generate the API format from the static data collected from various mentioned websites which consider our huge accomplishment.

How I Used Space Agency Data in This Project

The main Agenda of this application is to convey the massive positive impact among the public on the environment due to coronavirus in a visually pleasing way. In our web application, Data is split into two types which are categorized as Static and Live data. Static data was taken from the open data portal of NASA, EO dashboard, and also from the open data portal of JAXA and ESA. With static and live data, one can compare the past (before covid-19) and present (after covid-19) on how the environmental factors have changed and what are its impacts before and after covid-19. Static data was taken for each month of 2019(before covid-19) and the average value was taken for each parameter whereas, for live data, the values of the EO dashboard were considered as the normal values with which the live data were considered for use in our prototype web application. Then, we used other APIs like Ambee, RapidAPI to deliver the requisite live data feed in our prototype web application. Each data will be displayed with the animations according to the parameter given by the user. Finally, the outcomes of the static data are to give an insight to the user on how the environmental parameters were affected before the pandemic, whereas for live or real-time data, it allows the user to interact with data through interactive features and other functionalities to conduct basic and advanced data research and analysis. For all the data used, these space agency data were taken as normal values with which the data were translated into a visually convincing story.

Earth Observing Dashboard Integration

Our Web Application data can be easily integrated into the NASA EO dashboard by integrating the mirror website link of our web application along with other environmental parameters represented near the main map, This can be named as “COVID COMPARISON” so that the user visiting the EO dashboard who is looking for covid related environment data can easily access and understand the changes with both numerical values and with the animation present in our app, Moreover, For easy access, the chatbot present in our web app will be very helpful in guiding the user on understanding and acquiring required data from our web application. Moreover, for any professional visiting the Eo Dashboard They can compare the effects of covid on the environment with the simple numerical data shown in our web app along with comparing the same with the actual data mapping provided by the EO dashboard, This will give the user the feel of obtaining the required data in a multidimensional way and that too in the same website. Our web app also consists of the important covid vaccination data so that the user will also get to know the current situation of his/her country on covid vaccination, we have proposed our web app project in such a way that the person visiting the covid data can directly book his/her jab from our web app, this is done to motivate more people to get vaccinated and also make the people aware of the importance of vaccination, we are also planning to provide animations for these vaccine segments so that we can create a visual impact about vaccination on the user. Thus integrating our project will not only eases the process of visualizing, understanding, and acquiring data but also help to protect our people during this tough pandemic time.
