The longer human activities are changed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the more visible, wider, and longer lasting the scope of environmental impacts may be. Your challenge is to tell a visual story about the impacts of the pandemic using Earth observation data and other complementary information.

Summary

The corona virus is the lesson that Mother Nature taught us to fight against the planet we created. Many changes are observed on Earth before and after the corona. These include air quality and water quality, which can be used to monitor climate change in each region by observing EO Dashboard data. Looking at those data shows how much impact we had on Earth before the corona. So when we finish the corona virus and start working again, we are tempted to work to preserve the atmosphere and water quality.

How I Addressed This Challenge

Earth has been identified as the only planet in the universe where life exists and life can exist, among the asteroids and galaxies. But life on this planet is no creation. The Earth originated about 4.5 billion years ago. The progenitor cell evolved as a result of a biochemical reaction that caused the earth to evolve over many years, a product of natural processes. The progenitor cell is a biochemical test performed by nature. The organism, which originated from a single-celled bacterium, then gradually evolved into algae (photosynthesis and the creation of an oxygenated atmosphere) and multicellular organisms, such as nidaria, annelida, and arthropods. About 12 million years ago, as a result of an experiment in nature, one extraordinary creature was created by what they call "man." Among the other creatures, their specialty was that they were tempted to think and act intelligently.

They made stone tools in the Stone Age, and in prehistoric times they made metal tools to save their lives and find food for everyday life.Then, as they get used to making weapons, they make products that are very harmful to the environment and the atmosphere, such as computers, machinery, factories, atomic bombs, nuclear bombs, as if they were working against their mother. We think only of the enemy who was against us, but we did not think that the consequences of the very adverse actions we take against each other are very severe.During this time, a virus called covid-19, or corona, emerged from one country at a time. What it shows us is that nature has the potential to create and destroy life. Data analysis on the EO dashboard confirms that the corona virus is the result of an environmentally friendly environment. The corona virus can be described as a step taken by nature to rebuild the earth after being killed by human activity. As the spread of the epidemic increased, countries took steps to lockdown the impact on the environment and human activities in various ways. If so,

Significant increase in air Quality

Lockdown reduces the amount of air pollutant nitrogen dioxide (NO2). That is, from March 2020 to April 2020, a gradual change in its size was observed. This reduced the nitrogen content of the countries around Europe by 50%. Analysis of the OMI column data shows a 30% decrease in 2019 and 2020 compared to 2015. Air pollution in India has been reduced by about 40% -50% due to the lockdown situation, but has not been significantly reduced due to the need to generate electricity continuously using coal or fossil fuels.

Carbondioxide emissions have increased by 45% since the industrial era and last between 300-400 years after the addition of carbon to the atmosphere. At present, the concentration of CO2 in the Earth's atmosphere is about 412 parts per million. Social distance, such as the movement of vehicles such as cars, aviation and shipping, and the use of fossil fuels slightly reduced the amount of CO2 emissions but did not reduce the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere. In late December 2019, CO2 levels in the Southern Hemisphere increased due to the increase across Australia. It was caused by large wildfires and affected many species, such as kangaroos. At the same time, as a solution, many countries have gradually reduced the concentration of carbon dioxide by using organic fertilizers instead of chemical fertilizers, as well as controlling microorganisms in the soil as well as human diseases.

Agriculture

With the imposition of Covid-19 travel restrictions, humans became more accustomed to eating naturally occurring foods such as rice and plants than other artificial foods. It was the peasantry that prevailed. Not only them but many people are used to spending time meaningfully when they are at home. They also planted seedlings and watered the crops to make compost without disposing of the remaining waste. As a result, family unity increased. Realizing the value of these organic fertilizers, some leaders made their farmers aware of the value of using organic fertilizers instead of chemical fertilizers.

Air Transportation

Shipping

Lockdowns have reduced ports and shipping, but have also reduced air pollutants such as nitrogen dioxide and sulfur dioxide, which add to the atmosphere.

Economic status

The lockdown caused by the Covid-19 epidemic had a severe impact on the economy. It caused extensive damage to businesses such as car manufacturing, retail and cinemas.
