Storytelling in the COVID-19 Era

The longer human activities are changed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the more visible, wider, and longer lasting the scope of environmental impacts may be. Your challenge is to tell a visual story about the impacts of the pandemic using Earth observation data and other complementary information.

Summary

This project uses the NASA ESA and JESA satellites to monitor the car/containers and activity slowdown in a country to predict further or indicate a financial situation in a country. The data from JESA and ESA shows that the decline of car activities and the more significant change of activity intensity in Singapore. The slowdown movement is due to the High Restriction movement by the EO data. This data will be the catalyst for the decline of the financial stability in that country. To support the finance data, live data from Statistics Singapore show that the bankruptcies are going from high to low after the restriction lifted to the restriction movement.

How I Addressed This Challenge

Using the EO data, it is much easier to identify the physical changes in a country and make a hypothesis. The media or locals may lie about their data, but the actual raw satellite image does not lie when it shows its data on a country. The change of activity intensity and car density in a country can predict if the business is going well by being busy or not when the road is empty. This method to conclude is one of the best-supporting details when we emphasize that a lockdown or restriction order can impact a country thoroughly. This EO data, too, can counter-check if the country restriction order is effective in terms of car density because some people assume when the essential services need to go to work improves things, or the car density remains the same.

How I Developed This Project

The project develops using a PHP file that shows a dashboard of the Singapore Activity (cars/containers) data and Slowdown Proxy Maps data inserted to show a live indicator by the EO. A supporting live data is brought forward from Statistics Singapore to the PHP file to show the financial indicator of a country is tally to the movement data at the satellite. Overall the project be presented in a video to make a clear understanding of it.

How I Used Space Agency Data in This Project

This created project displays the dashboard and the economics indicator with its report to support the data. With the help of a PHP file that displays a dashboard with Singapore Activity (cars/containers) data and Slowdown Proxy Maps, the data uses to inserted and then display live by the EO. A supporting live data is also brought forward from Statistics Singapore to the PHP file to highlight how a country's financial indicator relates to satellite movement data. 

Earth Observing Dashboard Integration

The solution is integrated into the earth observing dashboard using an embed link to show its specific data on our page for better reference. With a better understanding of the API method, our project suggestion to solve the problem can implement for more excellent data support.
