Storytelling in the COVID-19 Era

The longer human activities are changed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the more visible, wider, and longer lasting the scope of environmental impacts may be. Your challenge is to tell a visual story about the impacts of the pandemic using Earth observation data and other complementary information.

An anecdote of the pandemic

Summary

Incorporating EO Dashboard's data our team created a website that discusses the environmental impact of the pandemic with ease. We are using the website, to tell the story of how the pandemic affected the overall environment. We mainly discussed the impact on air quality, water quality and agriculture worldwide.

How I Addressed This Challenge

To address the "Storytelling in the covid-19 era" we developed a website "An anecdote of the pandemic" to tell the story of how the pandemic affected the environment in unprecedented ways. We mainly focus on air quality, water quality and agricultural mishaps caused by the pandemic. We developed a website because it provides you with ease of access. Having a website makes it very easy for people to find the information they're looking for with one click, read up about it, discover how it impacted, and answer a bunch of questions they have on that matter. Moreover, it is an extremely low-cost way of attaining information. What differs from other websites is that it includes the data from EO Dashboard, which covers a wide range of factors that impact the environment. We also cover three different environments on our website. By creating this website, we hope that it would be easier to tell the story of how the pandemic affected the environment in various ways, in one place (our website). We also hope that many could easily attain and understand the information incorporated on our website.

How I Developed This Project

Our team chose this project specifically because not many people are completely aware of the environmental impact due to the pandemic. Hence, we wanted to tell the story in a very simple way possible with ease to access. We created a website because it is easy to access, low cost and many information can be incorporated into one place. Hence, people won't have to look for many sources to get the facts straight. we used WordPress to create the website, has it is very user friendly. The major problem we faced while developing this project is the sudden demise of our teammate's brother. It was hard for her to give her 100 %, yet she tried her best. Developing this website for the challenge on time is what we consider our greatest achievement, as it was not an easy task with our finals going on, yet we succeed.

How I Used Space Agency Data in This Project

Almost 90% of the data used in our website is from the EO dashboard and the remaining 10% is from a few other sources, for example, the WHO website and the New Scientist website. The data from the EO dashboard was so helpful even for us to understand the impact to its core. hence, we incorporated it into our website so that the people could really understand it with ease.

Earth Observing Dashboard Integration

To integrate our project into the EO Dashboard we just need to add more information that we have already included and tarnish the website a little more.
