Environmental Justice During the COVID-19 Pandemic

The purpose of this challenge is to use remote-sensing data and satellite images to help form a better understanding of societal trends as affected by COVID-19. Your challenge is to discern how human activity in communities of minority, low-income, tribal, and indigenous populations have changed as a result of COVID-19.

Summary

COVID-19 has a huge effect on human behaviors. When people's actual social contact falls below their desired level of social contact, they begin to feel lonely, and loneliness is stressful. Some of the people wear masks and use alcohol however, they are infected with COVID-19. Those people try to protect themselves and keep our freedom. But wearing masks and using alcohol don not prevent the virus completely. we came up with an idea to prevent the spreading of the virus through constructing a device that have the ability to pick up a signal indicates the presence of the virus so, people can avoid these places and they will be more free and safe to go outside.

How I Addressed This Challenge

After thinking and doing many researches, we came up with an idea to prevent the spreading of the virus by constructing a device that has the ability to pick up a signal that indicates the presence of the virus so, people can avoid these places and they will be freer to go outside.

The device is designed as follows:-

Using an engine, make a sample of air enters a suitable medium for the virus present on a light microscope. By doing this, the virus becomes on the microscope and we can zoom in to see it. But the light microscope cannot magnify more than 10000 times and we cannot see viruses. If we put a lens that can magnify about 100 times in front of the microscope lens and the lens of the microscope can magnify 10000x. Then the sample is magnified at 1000000x, so we can see the virus but not very clear. The aim of this is not to see the virus, we don't want to study it, but we want anything to make us detect it in the air.

After that, we put a programmed camera that has the ability to give an alert if the virus is seen. This camera will be located at the eyepiece of the microscope. This idea can help people everywhere, limit the spread of viruses, and make people feel safe when they go out.

How I Developed This Project

We started solving the problem by thinking about how to keep people safe while they were doing their normal behaviors like before the disease spread. In the beginning, we thought of a device that would be programmed so that if two people approached each other for a distance of less than a meter and a half, it would make a sound to warn. This idea was developed so that the device saw a person with a pale face and the disease appeared on him, making a sound. Our idea was also developed into a breathing mask that prevents entering the air if the virus is in it and breathing is done through stored oxygen, but in the end, we came up with a device that is used both to detect the virus in the air and also on any surfaces in order to perform a good cleaning. We hope to help people feel safe to go outside and live their lives in a normal way.

How I Used Space Agency Data in This Project

We used it to know the statistics of Corona and that it is increasing in Egypt and this affects human behavior

Earth Observing Dashboard Integration

People need to know the latest developments in Corona’s statistics and their impact on human, economic and environmental behavior, and our project is used to determine whether there are viruses in the air or not, and this will help in collecting data and informing people of the developments
