A Comparative Analysis

The COVID-19 pandemic has had different impacts in different regions of the world. Your challenge is to perform a comparative analysis of the pandemic’s economic impacts in urban areas for the USA, Asia, and Europe using the EO Dashboard.

Summary

In modern world, we have a possibility to present different ideas, projects, and creations with support of cutting edge technologies. EO Dashboard Hackathon is an excellent event, where combination of technology and different ideas could provide new breakthroughs in science and technology. In AirX project, I have combined modern web technologies to create a background for research about global changes in air pollution for several years, its values before and in time of Covid 19 global pandemic. Understanding of these changes could lead us to better dealing with air pollution in the contemporary world.

How I Addressed This Challenge

AirX is a project, where I used high-end web technologies, with purpose to comply with "A Comparative Analysis" EO Dashboard Hackathon goals. My main goal was to create an interactive experience, where will be combined data about air quality and greenhouse gases analysis in large cities in Asia, Europe, and USA. To be more clear, I have created dashboard application, with several links, which leads to the values of air measures results for large cities across Asia, Europe and USA. App is consisted of thirteen sections, where is described more about these results (with appropriate links for the large cities). On the right side of the application is field with average values for air quality and greenhouse gases, for several years in row. It gives to us an excellent oportunity to compare and process information about air quality in large cities - from Beijing on one side of the globe to the San Francisco on the other.

Finally, I believe that this project could be very good educational tool for anyone who want to know more about air quality in these cities, before, and in time of Covid 19 pandemic. This dashboard could be very useful people, who want to know more about how global pandemic impacted on air quality in large cities around the world. It's not just about information, but also and modern design play a role.

How I Developed This Project

I have used modern web technologies, which provide high level of flexibility to be created AirX project. For creating of the skeleton of this dashboard I have used classic HTML, which I combined with Bootstrap 4.3.1 technology to achieve quality responsive design. For design part, I used SCSS - new generation of CSS technology, which provide for me flexible frame to create wanted design. Finally, for backend processes I worked with jQuery (JavaScript library).

How I Used Space Agency Data in This Project

I heavily used data from Earth Observing Dashboard (NASA, ESA, JAXA), where my focus was on tropospheric NO2. To extract results I have used simple method - combine measurement points to get total sum, and later divide this sum with number of points. In that way, I got average values for each city.
