Software used: Tableau Public
Data Used:
- Mobility data (Covid-19 Google Community Mobility report) from dashboard as mentioned in the project resource page
- CO2 and NO2 data from EO Dashboard
Data Time Frame: February 2020 - 20th June 2021
Hardware: Mac book Pro
Coding: Have to code multiple new fields (hyper-parameters) as those are not present within the raw data.
Inspiration:
Covid-19 (and lockdown), has changed the human lifestyle and behavior pattern over time, across the globe. At the same time, due to lockdown, the public places are closed and commute has reduced drastically. I want to understand visually how the societal parameters has changed over time across the world over a period of time.
Approach:
I wanted to bring all the parameters (societal behavior parameters) under a single frame along with the hyper-parameters (the filters) to understand, how the change of hyper-parameters also changes the corresponding parameters.
Problem:
As Tableau public (which is a free software) does not allow to save my work locally and also I am unable to save the ACTUAL worksheets (and Codes). Once I close the software environment locally, all my work is gone.
At the last day, I had to re-do the everything again (Unfortunately).
Lesson-Learned:
Use licensed software and work as a team (for extra brain, hand and eye :-) )
Achievements:
I am glad to work with NASA, ESA, JAXA data/environment it was absolutely a pleasure in itself to talk to respective SMEs. I personally feel, it's an honor to work in this hackathon and I have learned lots of things (Both technical and soft skills)
Next Step for me: (Personal Goal)
I am going to develop multiple mockups/variations of visualizations to understand the pattern like, G7-Countries Vs Parameter Change, G20-Countries Vs Parameter Change, Different regions of the world Vs Parameter Change and how NO2 and CO2 concentration changes due to those change in parameters and will show as a story to understand the flow in totality.
Description
This project tries to understand (through visualization) how multiple urban societal behavior parameters changes over time across the globe.
I have developed a live dashboard (using multiple worksheets) using Tableau which shows how the multiple urban societal parameters like 'Grocery and Pharmacy', 'Parks', 'Residential', 'Retail and Recreation', 'Transit Stations', 'Workplaces' varies from country to county and City to City.
The dashboard has two sections. The upper section depicts the filter(s) for Country, City, Weekday/Weekend and the below section reflects the change in those urban societal variables over time axis based on the selection.
User can filter a particular Country and/or associated major city(cities) in combination (one Country at a time) and the filter function automatically will point the County/City on the map on the upper section of the dashboard.
At the same time, below section gets updated with change of parameter (multiple) values spread across time.
Note: Directly choosing country from the map also updates the parameter values.
I have also developed visualization which shows the average change of those parameters across countries OVER time. The data contains time frame from February 2020 till 20th June 2021 and once the timer starts, it shows the overall change of ALL parameter values across complete duration.
